Columbus, Ohio (WCMH) — Governor of Ohio Mike DeWine On Thursday, it issued a suspended sentence for three incarcerated men, citing a continued shortage of lethal injection drugs in state supplies.
In a press release, DeWine announced that the execution dates for Charles Lorraine, Gerald Hand and Cleveland Jackson would be postponed from 2023 to 2026.
This is the latest in a string of reprieves in an ongoing struggle between drug suppliers and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections.
Lorraine, who was scheduled to be executed on March 15, 2023, is now scheduled to be executed on May 13, 2026. He was sentenced to death in 1986 for stabbing an elderly couple in Warren, Ohio.
The execution date for the May 17, 2023 hand has been rescheduled to June 17, 2026. Hand has been on death row since 2003 when he was convicted of murdering his wife and friend.
Jackson will be executed on July 15, 2026 instead of June 15, 2023.
