This issue is very personal to this former Miss Ohio.

“I was a student-athlete. I was a ballerina. It turned out I had a heart condition called cardiomyopathy,” Davis said.

Since then, Davis has devoted her life to raising awareness of sudden cardiac arrest and, in 2017, also helped pass the law that bears her name called Senate Bill 252 (also known as the Lindsay Act). .

“Each year, athletic trainers, coaches, parents, and students themselves should watch an eight-minute video that educates them about the signs and symptoms of heart disease. They sign a form that shows they understand the symptoms. must be turned off.
Once you experience them, they will be removed from play until cleared by a cardiologist,” Davis said.

It also educates them on how to act quickly with CPR and a defibrillator.

“Anyone, regardless of age or activity level, could be hiding a heart condition or have something going on with their heart that causes an event such as sudden cardiac arrest,” Davis said.

Davis says there are currently no state laws mandating the use of AEDS for high school sporting events. I strongly recommend it.

Davis said he is currently working on another bill that requires all students to know how to perform CPR and how to use an AED.

“That’s what we really have to stress. These top-level athletes have these protections in place, but there are about 60,000 million kids in the United States who play sports.” and we need to protect them,” Davis said.
