Plant-based burgers have skyrocketed in popularity over the last few years. Are these meat substitutes healthier than the real thing? Catherine Zeratsky, a dietitian and nutritionist at the Mayo Clinic, says it’s good to include more plant-based foods in your diet, but pay attention to the ingredients.
Zeratsky says that the benefits of plant-based burgers usually come in the form of fiber and other nutrients. But then the problem of fat arises. As with natural meat burgers, saturated fat can be a concern.
