'Violent' New Jersey fugitive arrested in southwest Ohio

Mason, Ohio (WDTN) — U.S. Marshals and local law enforcement arrested a New Jersey fugitive Wednesday afternoon.

Odeli Caldwell was arrested this afternoon in Mason by a special unit of U.S. Marshals and local law enforcement. Caldwell had been wanted by the New Jersey Department of Corrections for nearly five years after escaping from prison in April 2019.

Caldwell was serving time for a violent crime, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. New Jersey authorities considered him one of the most wanted.

An investigation led law enforcement to the 4000 block of Spanish Bay Drive in Mason on Wednesday, March 27. Caldwell was taken into secure custody by the U.S. Marshals, Mason Police Department, and Warren County Sheriff's Office.

By combining our resources and sharing information, we were able to safely apprehend this violent fugitive,” said Michael D. Black, United States Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio.

Caldwell is currently in the Warren County Jail awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
