Chicago Bears rookie Justin Fields has been selected as the starting quarterback for the team on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.
Andy Dalton is fighting a bruise on his knee bone. NickFoles backs up Fields.
Bears coach Matt Nagy said Wednesday that he would return as a starter when Dalton became healthy.
Dalton was injured last Sunday in the first half of his victory over Dalton’s longtime former team, the Cincinnati Bengals. QB grabbed his left lower limb following the second quarter sack. In his next play, he slipped out of his pocket to relieve pressure, rushed out of bounds, and reached out again on the outside of his foot when he returned to the Bears bench.
After half-time, Fields took over and host Bears led Bengals 7-3.
Dalton finished 11-9 with a 56-yard pass and touchdown. The field completed 6 out of 13 pass attempts at 60 yards and intercept. He also rushed 31 yards with 10 carries.
During the season, Dalton completed 73.5% of the pass at 262 yards, winning Bears TD and INT (1-1).
Browns is 1-1.
