Bears Top 10 Play Rankings for the 2021 Season

Rally Mayer

We’ve compiled a list of Bears’ top 10 plays for the 2021 season (see above). The NFL Media recently completed a similar task (see bottom of story). There are some similarities and some differences.

First, two observations:

• There are 6 plays in both of the top 10. I selected each of the first five in the NFL Media list, but only one of the following five plays. We have agreed on three plays, ranking the same play as 1st, 5th and 8th.

• I focused on playing to change the game. For example, all my 10 plays are scoring plays or takeaways, and one is both. I also considered the context of the play. For example, David Montgomery’s 41-yard run in the season opener against Rams was impressive, but the drive brought a turnover and the Bears lost the game by a considerable margin (34-14).

No more hassle, but here are the top 10 Bears plays for the 2021 season:

(10) Dalton connects with Goodwin

Andy Dalton chased Ravens 9-6 in Soldier Field in the second half of the fourth quarter of November 21, giving Bears a 49-yard touchdown pass to Marquise Goodwin, who opened wide in 4th and 11th. Gives a -9 lead. 1:41 Play in the game.

(9) Field connects with Horsted

Justin Fields’ first NF LTD pass was impressive. Faced with the Raiders on October 10 in Las Vegas, the rookie quarterback escaped from his pocket, rolled to the right, and fired the ball at the tight-end Jesper Horsted. ..

(8) Gipson’s diving intercept

Tashaun Gipson Sr. prevented the Ravens from jumping into Bears’ territory and pulled the ball from the tight-end Mark Andrews’ chest at a diving intercept.

(7) Smith takes it home

Roquan Smith intercepted Bengals Joe Burrow at Bears’ home opener on September 19 and returned 53 yards for the linebacker’s first NFL touchdown. Smith chased Joe Mixon, shook off the tackle attempt and dashed the left sideline. This was the first of three straight barrow passes intercepted by Bears.

NFL Media Rank: 4th

(6) Foles connects with Graham

Nick Foles chased the Seahawks 24-17 in Seattle in the second half of the fourth quarter of December 26, throwing a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jimmy Graham with 1:01 remaining. The TD reception was typical of many others Graham captured throughout his illustrious 12-year NFL career. A former college basketball player bumped into the end zone, turned his whole body toward the falls, and “boxed out” as if John Reed, a cornerback, was fighting a rebound, competing for a catch.

(5) Field cap comeback

Fields led the Steelers 27-26 on November 8th in Pittsburgh, throwing a full 16-yard TD pass to Darnell Mooney in the left corner of the end zone, leaving 1:46. Unfortunately, Pittsburgh played 26 with a 29-27 victory in Chris Boswell’s 40-yard field goal.

NFL Media Rank: 5th

(4) Fields connects with James

With my belief that it was one of the top touchdown throws and catches in the NFL this season, Fields sprinted to his left and the tight end in the corner of the end zone on October 31st. I threw an 8-yard TD pass to Jesse James. The 49ers are out of the reach of Josh Norman in the cornerback.

(3) Grant makes history

Jakeem Grant Sr. demonstrated his speed and playmaking ability when he returned a 97-yard punt for a touchdown with the Green Bay Packers on December 12. He fielded the ball with his 3 and took a few steps to the right, flipped the field and dashed the left sideline.

Grant’s punt return was the longest in Bears history, with Johnny Bailey surpassing the 95-yard TD on December 29, 1990, losing to the Chiefs 21-10. This was also the first punt return touchdown in the NFL this season.

NFL Media Rank: 2nd

(2) Field highlight reel TD run

The rookie quarterback made him 11th with a dazzling 22-yard touchdown scramble on October 31 against the 49ers, who the Bears traded up in the first round of the draft and excited the Soldier Field crowd. I showed you why I was so excited to land on the.

4 to 1, Fields showed the defender on his face as soon as he returned to the pass. However, he broke the tackle in his pocket, turned the field to the left, and missed four more defenders on his way to the end zone. A former Ohio State University star admitted after the match that it was a characteristic moment in his young career.

NFL Media Rank: 3rd

(1) Bird flies

Damiere Byrd beat the Seahawks with a 25-24 comeback with a stunning catch of a two-point conversion pass from the Falls with only 1:01 left. Receiver director Mike Fury described the play as “one of the most notable catches I’ve ever seen, in a movie, watching an old-fashioned movie, and obviously meeting in person.” Did.

Behind the end zone, Bird jumped high to catch the Falls pass and landed on the cornerback Sydney Jones IV and linebacker Jordyn Brooks. When the three players fell to the ground, Bird lifted the ball high with his left hand and lowered his right knee inbound just before his right knee hit the ground from the end zone.
