Official Pride Center Rededication Ceremony Held During Student Senate Pride Week (March 18-22)

On Monday, March 18, the LGBT Center of Ohio will officially celebrate its day as the newly renamed Pride Center.

The Ohio University Student Senate, which unanimously passed a bill supporting the name change in October 2023, will join Ohio State’s leadership during the election period. Pride Center Rededication Reception March 20 will mark the center’s 25-year history and serve as a rededication to the center’s core mission of educating, connecting, celebrating and supporting.

LGBT Center Director Micah McCurry expressed his deep gratitude to the Student Senate for their advocacy and support throughout the name change process and is excited that the Pride Center will continue to serve as a welcoming and inclusive resource for all. He said that

“The Pride Center will continue to be a resource for all students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents and other community members,” McCurry said. “Through advocacy, the arts, individual counseling, community meetings, and other support strategies, our goal is to serve and celebrate people of all genders, orientations, and identity expressions.”

Sarah Doherty, Deputy Director of the LGBT Center, emphasized the Center’s long history of supporting students, which would not be possible without the support of the university community and others.

“We are extremely proud of the many students who have found knowledge, friendship, guidance, leadership and more through their involvement with the center,” Dougherty said. “We are also extremely grateful to our faculty, staff, alumni, community members, and supporters, without whom the Center’s work would not be possible.”
