Local winery celebrates nearly a century of family tradition with big party

Belmont County, Ohio (WTRF) – From northern Italy to Lansing, Ohio, a local family has brought nearly a century of winemaking excellence here in the Ohio Valley. Now they are going to throw a big party and everyone is invited.

Generations of dedication go into every bottle of Vino di Pitchin Winery.

“Our grandparents immigrated from the small village of Vittorio Veneto in Italy. They brought with them all the traditions of winemaking, sausages and salami. We continued that tradition, and the winery was basically opened to honor that tradition and our parents.”

That long-standing tradition is in full force at the Vino di Pitchin Winery. Located on Route 40 in Lansing, which the Pitchin family has called home for generations.

“I always tell people I grew up in the best places and at the best times. My father was a barber and my mother was the town postmaster. So growing up, I didn’t know who was going to be at the dinner table, and they were always enjoying a glass of wine with my dad.”

Seven children started a winery to honor the memory of Fritz and Evelyn Pitchin. Now called the best kept secret in the Ohio Valley.

“John and Lou and the whole family are great. Great wine. Great atmosphere. For entertainment, food, meat and cheese platters, this is a fun place to be.”

Jim Berze, musician/performer

With the help of friends and family, we make and bottle 16 different wines at our on-site facility. Made from the highest quality grapes from California, Ohio and Washington. They are purchased during peak growing season. The care and dedication that goes into each bottle is what customers say makes the wines stand out.

“Big wineries and big chains do it for profit. These guys do it because they love it. My parents are from Italy. It was a big honor for us.So the love they put into this.No shortcuts. So I drove 3 hours to drink this wine. This is the better one.

Randy Gilley, Columbus, Ohio

Vino di Pitchin kicks off the spring season with a massive St. Patrick’s Day celebration, so mark your calendars now. On Saturday, March 18th, they will open the doors to their working winery for a party that includes great food and live entertainment.

Entertainment includes top bands from the region. Eli and the Mojo Kings, Ron Retzer Trio and MSM will be in attendance.

Of course, there’s the soon-to-be-famous green slushie.
