Columbus Crew and Clippers fans flood the arena area, filling parking spaces

For the first time, both Columbus Clippers and Columbus Crew played home games in the Arena area, creating a very busy night in the area.

Columbus, Ohio — Wednesday night, the arena district was full of thousands of fans. I had something to do, whether I wanted to watch baseball or soccer.

Since the Historic Crew Stadium was near Fairgrounds, it was usually not a problem to play Columbus Crew and Columbus Clippers games at the same time.

Now that the crew is playing downtown Lower.com Field, there are some new challenges.

But the best seats in Huntington Park were for the smallest fans.

“I went to the Clippers once when I was a grandma,” said John Tucciarone. He and his family couldn’t wait to get to their seats. His parents Andrew and Amy wanted them to get there early enough so they wouldn’t miss anything.

“We got here about an hour early. It’s crazy. I knew it would be crazy,” Andrew said.

For the first time, crew and Clippers fans merged together on the same night, just a block away at the same time.

It created a crazy situation for parking in the arena district.

“I was alerted to the Clippers on Twitter that they would be crazy, so I actually prepaid the parking fee before I got off. I was able to pull right there and get a spot,” Amy said. ..

Many fans parked far away from the two stadiums. Crew fan Nick Klingman said pockets are easier.

“Walkbacks are always worse than walking there. It’s definitely different to be here instead of a tailgate. We’re walking with tens of thousands of people,” Klingman said. ..

Thousands of steps were taken to win those great seats, but for Tucciarones, every step was worth it.

“It’s a fun atmosphere. It’s nice to see so many people coming out after hiding in the basement for a year or so,” Andrew said.
