Columbus Crew has signed goalkeeper Brady Scott and defender Jalil Anibaba for the 2022 MLS season on Friday.
The crew ranked Scott fourth overall in Stage 2 of the 2021 MLS Re-entry Draft. His contract includes options for 2023 and 2024.
“We are delighted to welcome Brady to Columbus,” said Tim Bezbatchenko, President and General Manager of Columbus. “He gained valuable experience within the MLS with the US Youth National Team during his stay in Germany. We look forward to integrating him into our goalkeeping team.”
Scott, 22, signed to Nashville SC in August 2020, but didn’t play in any match before being taken over by Austin FC in the 2020MLS Expansion Draft in December of that year. He played in seven games when he was rented to USL Memphis 901FC in the 2021 season.
Scott began his professional career in FC Cologne, Germany in July 2017. He recorded five shutouts in 29 FC Cologne II games and two shutouts in three FC Cologne teams under the age of 19. In the 2018 Concacaf U-20 Championship, Scott scored three shutouts and allowed only two goals in six games.
Anibaba, 33, scored seven goals while registering 14 assists in 240 regular season MLS games. His contract also includes options for 2023.
Anibaba has spent the last two seasons at Nashville SC and has played in 21 regular season games.
“Jalil is a veteran player with over 10 years of experience in MLS, and his addition to the roster will help strengthen his backline,” said Bezbachenko. “Jalil is a leader on and off the field. We are delighted that a player with extensive experience in MLS has chosen to sign a crew. We look forward to joining our team.”
