U.S. Marshals Conduct Nationwide Search for Fugitive Sex Offender in West Virginia

Charleston, W. Virginia — The CUFFED task force for the U.S. Marshals Service for the Southern District of West Virginia is seeking public cooperation in its search for wanted sex offenders, according to a press release.

U.S. Marshals are searching for Gabriel Allen Hargus, 46, of Mineral Wells, West Virginia. He is wanted by the U.S. Marshal, the West Virginia State Police, and the West Virginia Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation on three counts of second-degree crime for not registering as a sex offender and parole violation.

Hargus was convicted in February 2011 of possession of material depicting a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct and third-degree sexual abuse of a 13-year-old female victim. He was sentenced to two years in prison, 30 years of long-term supervision, and lifelong registration as a sex offender.

Hargus is known to drive a West Virginia-registered 2016 Silver Ford Focus N3R908. Officials said he was aware he was wanted and was currently hiding from police. He is believed to have fled the state.
