Columbus police said police officers were first called to the scene for the uproar.
Columbus, Ohio — A family confirmed on 10TV that the person shot dead by police in southeastern Columbus on Tuesday was a 16-year-old Makia Briant.
Police officers were called to block 3100 in Legion Lane, north of Chatterton Road, shortly after 4:30 pm due to the uproar.
The family says Bryant called the police for help because the girl was fighting outside her house.
Brian was taken to Mount Carmel East in crisis and later sentenced to death.
“A young woman died tragically,” Mayor Andrew Ginther said in a statement tweeted Tuesday night, saying there was a body camera image of the incident. Ginther urged people to “calm down” and allow investigators to collect facts.
Members of the Mothers of Murdered Columbus Children have gathered in the area, some with a sign that says “enough” and others that say “black children are important.”
The Ohio Criminal Investigation Department is at the scene of the investigation.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
