It’s been almost two years since Andrew Revy Announced his plan Opened Immigrant Son Brewery in Lakewood’s West End district. At its best, opening a brew pub is a complex endeavor, but trying to do so during a pandemic is unimaginably complex.

“The world isn’t always working together,” says Revy. “But it’s a great relief to see the goal line reliably.”

The goal line is just a few weeks away, with the opening scheduled for late September penciled in. For the past two years, the Revy and ARC-Form team have been working to transform the former Constantinos Market (and Nature’s Bin) into Lakewood’s first and only brewery. The 9,000-square-foot building proved to be the ideal foundation for building an immigrant son, says Revy. All the original features of skylights, bare wood frameworks, windows, and even dairy coolers in grocery stores were retained.

Thanks to the large windows, a shiny 10-barrel brewery can be seen from the dining room. Brewer Eric Ruri has been busy brewing for weeks to open a roster of about 20 different beers. Classic styles such as Pilsner, Saison, Kölsch, Common Ale, IPA and Stout are the mainstream, but are supported by seasons and specials. These beers, as well as limited releases like Zydrunas Ilgauskas’ collaboration PerZverance, will also begin to appear in select bars and restaurants throughout the city. Industry veteran and owner of the deceased La Cave du Vin, Erich Lasher runs a bar program that will satisfy beer, wine and cocktail lovers.

The tall main room has a cathedral ceiling, a 15-seat bar, and plenty of high-top and booth seats. Additional seats are available in the overflow / private dining space and upcoming patio. The building has a large parking lot for 40 cars.

Immigrant sons are more than catchy names. It is the foundation of the entire project and affects every aspect of the food and beverage program.
“I’m a first-generation American,” Revy explains. “My parents are from Hungary, who came here two weeks before the revolution, so I’m the son of an immigrant.”

Executive Chef Rob Dipong used that inspiration to create a globally inspired menu that takes root in the crucibles of our city. Johnson & Welsh graduates set up a slightly higher culinary spectacle than you’ll find in a nearby pub. There is a section of Lángos, a classic Hungarian fried bread with a variety of toppings and treatments. Other small dishes include smoked and grilled whole wings, charred octopus with chorizo ​​and romesco, steamed mussel frit with corche, and cheddar cheese pierogi with butter and onions.

Eastern European salads such as cucumber and beet dill cream and sour cream, as well as classic Greek and Caesar salads. The “handheld” section changes from traditional ones like caramel onions and Swiss smashburgers to interesting ones like the one with caramel chicken paprikash sandwiches. Entree’s full slate is marked by dishes such as walleye fish and chips, smoked pork chops and spats, Japanese beef steak frit, and bacon-wrapped meatloaf and mashed potatoes.

Beer is known throughout the menu, but is especially known for its desserts such as stout pot de cream, Hungarian Cremeschnitte with stout chocolate sauce, and chocolate waffles with stout chocolate sauce.

The weekend brunch menu is equally appealing thanks to items such as avocado toast, chimichurio omelette, banana pancakes, brown butter waffles, and egg benedict starring the puffy Hungarian Langosh.

Revy has been working on this project for years, but he quickly says that the most difficult task is yet to come. Now that the building and brewery are nearly complete, he is shifting his focus to the softer side of the business. The immigrant son does not go the many way of his brewery brothers, but becomes a full-service facility with a little ambitious aspirations.

“It’s not your corner bar, but it’s not the location of your high-end white tablecloth,” says Revy. “It’s about paying attention to the whole experience. We pay attention to beer as well as food and service. Great food and great beer can be spoiled by poor service.”

The Immigrant Son Brewery is located on 18120 Sloan Avenue and is scheduled to open in late September.
