USPS workers mourn loss of Milwaukee colleague

On Friday night, Milwaukee police said someone shot and killed a U.S. Postal Service carrier while delivering mail.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service identified the victim as Andre Cross. Police say he is in his 40s.

For over 18 years, Cross has delivered emails and smiles.

“Andre came to work every day with a smile on his face. If you’re sad, he’ll make you smile. He’ll make you laugh every day,” said Cross’ friend and colleague. said Melissa Carter. .

A video shared with sister station WISN 12 News by his route resident Elaxex Trammel showed him laughing and laughing while delivering mail hours before he was killed.

Surveillance footage obtained by sister station WISN 12 News captured gunshots and the subject running to the car. This car looks similar to the same car on the US Postal Service wanted poster. According to the wanted poster, the suspect’s car is a silver Audi Q5 SUV with tinted windows.

“Being a carrier in Milwaukee is pretty scary right now. And you’re alone on the route. It’s literally you and the mail,” Brown said.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service offers rewards of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspects involved in murder.

Postal workers met on Saturday night, the day Cross spent the last moments of his life, to mourn the loss of one of their own.

“It’s sad to see someone as good as him. It just hurts because he didn’t deserve this at all,” Brown said.
