Former Garion School Athletic Trainer Indicted

Marion’s Jon Vitello, 38, was arrested after the Marion Police Department was alerted of a possible crime by the Ohio Internet Crime Task Force against Children.

Columbus, Ohio — Former Athletic Trainer of Galleon Municipal School He was charged with crimes including child pornography, according to Marion County Republican Court records.

Marion’s 38-year-old Jon Vitello was charged on March 8 with four counts of indecent conduct involving a minor.

Vitello was arrested by Marion Police earlier this month after being warned of possible crimes by the Ohio Internet Crime Against Children Commission.

Officers acted quickly to investigate the incident because of Vitello’s employment at Garion Municipal School, police said. In this district he worked for five years, working as a contract employee through a local medical institution.

Police said they found no evidence to suggest that he was involved in inappropriate or illegal activities involving students, even though he was close to the children at school.

Galion City School District Superintendent Jennifer Allading said in a statement to parents that there was no evidence of inappropriate contact with Galion students, but Vitello saved the photos from social media sites. Allerding was charged that one photo was from a Galion sporting event posted by Galion Tigers Athletics.

In a statement, Allading wrote: We learned this morning that former Athletic his trainer Jon Vitello has been arrested for possessing images believed to exploit children. The Galion City School District is working with the Marion Police Department in an ongoing investigation. Needless to say, we are shaken and disgusted by this allegation. “

Oldering also writes that Vitello cannot work for the school district or have access to Galion’s buildings or events.

Vitello’s charge of lewd conduct involving a minor is a second-degree felony, with sentencing guidelines ranging from two to eight years in prison per count.

“These are serious crimes and carry serious penalties. Our federal law enforcement agencies and other partners constantly monitor the Internet for anyone producing, trading, or viewing child pornography. We would like to thank the Ohio Internet Crime Against Children Task Force and Marion Police Department Detectives for the excellent work they have done so far in this case. Marion Police Chief Jay Macdonald said.
