Off-duty pilots help planes land during medical emergencies

Dayton, Ohio (WDTN) — An off-duty pilot “flyed off” to land the flight en route to Columbus after the pilot suffered a medical emergency.

The pilot flies to another airline, but when one of the co-pilots collapsed with stomach pains, she knew exactly what to do.

A representative said the flight left Las Vegas on Wednesday and was heading to Columbus when one of the pilots needed medical attention.

In a recording obtained by LiveATC, flight crew members can be heard saying the pilot had stomach pains before passing out or being incapacitated.

The pilot assisted in radio communications to bring the Boeing 737 safely back to Las Vegas. The plane then changed crews and completed its flight to Columbus.
