Two children critically injured in Winton Hills apartment fire Thursday morning

Two children are critically ill after a fire broke out in an apartment complex in Winton Hills early Thursday morning. Assistant Cincinnati Fire Chief Matt Flagler said the first call to the fire at Block 600 of Strand Lane was made around 5:30 a.m. Flagler says: The first team arrived within four minutes and found a raging fire on the first floor of the apartment building. As the first crew arrived, more reports of children being trapped inside the building came in. Authorities said a “very aggressive search” was launched and firefighters found two elementary school children and removed them from the building. The children were taken to hospital in critical condition, Flagler said. “It’s a tough morning,” Flagler said. “Everyone here is a mother and a father and our hearts go out to the families affected this morning.” says it is still unknown. The children were taken to hospital in critical condition, Flagler said.

Officials say the cause of the fire is not yet known, but they have no reason to believe the blaze is suspicious at this time.

Flagler said adjacent units suffered minor damage, adding that no firefighters were injured.

“This was a very aggressive operation. We knew there were people who needed our help, so our firefighters would do anything to help them,” he said. .
