Ohio man sentenced to death for stabbing foster brother

Dayton, Ohio (WDTN) — An Ohio man has been sentenced to prison after he tracked down and killed a man who once shared the same foster home.

Antonio Sprinkle, 30, of Elyria, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, according to Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost’s release.

Sprinkle pleaded guilty to the 2019 murder of Antoine Dolmend, 27, and was found guilty in Lorraine County Republican Court on December 5.

Sprinkle told Elylia police investigators that he stabbed Dolmend because he believed he broke into his apartment a month ago and urinated on his mattress. He started carrying knives, the release said.

The two met at a gathering of friends on the evening of August 15, 2019.

In the early hours of August 16, Sprinkle met Dolmend at a gas station on Lake Avenue. He approached Dolmend on foot and got into his car. Dolmend started driving, but he was unable to get out of the parking lot before the car hit the curb.

A bloodied Dolmend got out of the car and ran to a gas station to call for help, identifying the attacker as “my brother.” Station staff called 911 for him and Dolmend was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he died after being stabbed three times in the chest.

Meanwhile, Sprinkle got into the driver’s seat of Dolmend’s car and fled up the Rocky River 20 miles northeast, where he crashed the car, leaving the front license plate.

He then drove the car to a gas station in Cleveland, where he abandoned it around 1:00 am. From there, Sprinkle returned to Elyria in his Uber and was arrested at 7am.

The knife used for the stabbing was dismembered and the blade was found in Dolmend’s abandoned car. Elyria police turned the knife over to the Criminal Investigative Service’s Laboratory Division, which confirmed the presence of Dormend’s DNA.

A DNA test by the BCI revealed that Sprinkle had Dolmend’s blood on his hands when he was arrested, according to a release.

Investigators discovered that Sprinkle and Dormend were in the same foster home and lived together as boys.
