OHSAA Soccer Finals: Peyton Otte, Marion Local Fly Record 12th State Title

Canton — Marion Local has arrived in Canton with the aim of setting new standards for the state’s football playoff championships in Ohio. The Flyers didn’t waste time doing it on Saturday morning.

Supported in the first quarter of 21 points, Marion Local blew off Newark Catholic 42-7 and won the Division VII State Championship at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. This is the title of the Flyers’ 12th State Playoffs and is the most common in any school, regardless of department.

Marion Local previously shared the mark with St. Ignatius, who has 11 titles. No other school in Ohio exceeds the number of titles Newark Catholic was trying to reach on Saturday.

The Flyers have won state championships in eight of the last 11 years. Their 12 titles have all come since 2000.

This victory made Marion Local the second school in Ohio to set a 16-0 record. Chardon did so first when he won the Division III state title on Friday.

Newark Catholic ends at 14-2. Green Wave has made the appearance of the 15th state title, almost always associated with Marion Local, but for the first time since 2012.

Former All-Ohio wide receiver Quarterback Peyton Otte continued to show that he could throw a touchdown pass. Otte scored two goals against Bradylon Nevaum in the first quarter, helping the Flyers open a 21-0 lead 12 minutes later. Otte added a one-yard rush touchdown shortly before the end of the first half, pushing Marion Local’s lead to 28-7. He offered a long TD run and a long TD pass and interrupted the third match. Otte also demonstrated his defensive strength by knocking down the force down pass in the second quarter, which may have resulted in a touchdown. Otte finished with a total of 317 yards of attacks, occupying 5 TDs.

Brady Ronnebaum had six receptions in a pair of 124 yards and TD, and teammate Dylan Freck had two catches in 64 yards and TD.
