Winners and Losers from the Chicago Street Race Weekend
Winners
- Alex Bowman – Snapped an 80-race winless streak and expressed immense relief: “Just overcoming everything that’s happened in my life in the last two years. It’s been really difficult, right? The concussion and then breaking my back after recovering from that. Then, we tremendously struggled through last year and kind of lost our way a little bit, it was really difficult.”
- Tyler Reddick – Despite frustration over not being able to challenge Alex Bowman for the lead, Reddick secured a runner-up finish, marking his sixth top-10 in the last seven races.
- Ty Gibbs – Achieved a third-place finish, marking his fourth top-five result in the last five road course events.
- Joey Hand – Finished fourth in his first start of the year for RFK Racing, showcasing his road racing skills.
- Ricky Stenhouse Jr. – Secured a sixth-place finish, his third top-10 in the last four races.
- Todd Gilliland – Finished seventh, extending his streak to nine consecutive top-20 finishes and achieving his best result in that stretch.
- Shane van Gisbergen – Impressed with a strong performance in Saturday’s Xfinity race, highlighted by an intense battle with Kyle Larson, which resulted in a victory for SVG.
Losers
- Shane van Gisbergen – Contact from Chase Briscoe caused SVG to hit the wall early in Sunday’s Cup race, resulting in a last-place finish.
- Kyle Larson – Crashed hard into the Turn 6 tire barriers, damaging the front end of his car and leading to a disappointing 39th-place finish.
- Chris Buescher – Dropped to the final playoff spot after Alex Bowman’s win, with six races left in the regular season.
- Christopher Bell – Despite leading 14 laps and showing strong performance, Bell faced challenges late in the race, finishing 37th due to damage sustained in the final laps and struggling to advance through the field after some cars stayed on wet weather tires.
