The idle speed zone law will go into effect on Thursday, June 8th. The zone begins at the Main Street Bridge over the St. Marys River and continues to the Columbia Avenue Bridge over the Maumee River and the Tennessee Avenue Bridge over the St. Joseph River. .

The changes are based on a proposal submitted by the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Authority to the Natural Resources Commission in fall 2020. Deputy Director of Recreation, Chuck Redinger, said the speed limit zone was proposed primarily to keep everyone on the river safe.
