Indiana isn’t off to the start it wanted in 2021.
Hoosiers (1-2) aims to get back on track Saturday night in Western Kentucky (1-1) in a non-conference game in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Indiana has turned the ball more than four times and won the Red Zone chance of just 3-6 with a 38-24 home loss against 8th Cincinnati last Saturday. Overall, the Hoogers turned the ball more than seven times in three games, with all seven turnovers losing to Cincinnati and Iowa twice.
“We’re talking about a high level of protection for football, but we haven’t done that in the two losing games,” said Indiana coach Tom Allen.
Indiana’s Michael Penix Jr., who started the quarterback, threw a big ten after throwing only four times in seven games last season.
“I just want to take care of the ball, not endanger it,” Penix, who threw three passcuts against Cincinnati last Saturday.
“I just want to make sure my reading is smart and I’m confident in every throw.”
West Kentucky boasts the country’s top pass offense (456.5 yards per game) and the country’s best offense (11-16, 68.8%) to convert in third down. The Hilltoppers are suffering 38-35 defeats in the Army.
Bailey Zappe of West Kentucky, who started the quarterback, threw 859 yards during the season and scored a 10TD pass for two pass cuts. Zappe won the honor of the Conference USA Co-Player of the Week after throwing 435 yards and 3 TDs against the Army.
A crowd of 23,776 seats is expected to be sold out at Howchins Industries-LT Smith Stadium. Here, West Kentucky fans are encouraged to wear black in the night game Blackout Games, which airs nationwide.
“Indiana is a really good soccer team,” said West Kentucky coach Tyson Helton. “If you look at them in all three phases, there are players everywhere. Coach Allen is doing a great job. They play so hard that everything we have to do to win this game You’ll need it, but in a great atmosphere, I’m really excited to have this opportunity to play in front of the crowd in our house. “
