City of Sharon kicks off St. Patrick’s Day weekend with parade and fireworks

Sharon, Pennsylvania (WKBN) — The City of Sharon is preparing to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with an environmental focus. To kick off the weekend, the 2nd Annual Slainte Sharon St. Patrick’s Day Parade will once again be held.

The Slainte Parade — a name meaning cheer — begins with the Luck of Irish Dash Fun Run.

The parade begins at 6 p.m., and its route begins at Penn State Shenango and ends at Quaker Steak and Lube. The parade will also be followed by live entertainment and a special “Blessing of Pets.”

Organizers say community participation makes it all worth it.

“I’m really happy that people are so excited that people we never expected are jumping in and saying, ‘I want to put a car in the parade, I want to make a float.'” We think it gives people a reason to get creative and participate in a fun and quirky parade,” said Downtown event coordinator Courtney Silley.

There is also a focus on animals in need. Organized by Westminster College’s Theta Chi Fraternity, the parade will feature a collection of animal care products in conjunction with Vanjack Heating and Cooling Company. There will also be a pet costume contest.

With pets in mind, organizers will wait a little while before setting off the fireworks so noise-sensitive puppies can be taken home. Fireworks will light up the sky Saturday at 7:45 p.m.

Parades aren’t the only thing happening in the city on Saturday. Before the parade, several businesses host their own parties and festivities.

“Companies were like, let’s see what we can do. So they planned their own parties around it and had someone come to town and spend a day there. We made sure we had a great fireworks display at the end,” Chiles said. .

Allie’s Sweet Tooth will be officially opening soon in the Old Army and Navy Building with a pop-up shop from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Block by Nova Destinations is hosting St. Patrick’s Day at The Block with live music all day long.Open from 10am to 11pm

There will also be an outdoor festival at the end of the parade route, Quaker Steak and Lube. A parade afterparty will be held from 8 to 11 p.m.
