Lima-Justin Evans is a big fan of the Beach Boys. Eleven years ago, he wanted to send a letter to Lima-born beachboy Al Jardine to see if he would sign the beachboy CD cover.
Originally from Springfield, Ohio, Evans once lived in Lima and has been a Beach Boys fan since the age of 10.
He also collects signs that have been around since he was 13 years old. He didn’t get a reply, so he thought he had lost the CD cover he had mailed to Jardin.
On September 3, he received a call from Al Jardine’s digital media manager, Spud, who was trying to track Evans.
On Sunday, Evans finally got a CD cover signed directly from Spud at Belfontaine Avenue Happy Dazs Restaurant in Lima.
“I think I received this letter in June, but things can fall behind furniture or between file folders. He (Al Jardine) gave me this envelope,” Spud said. say. “He said,’He has all these CD covers. I know the man’s name is Justin Evans, but he doesn’t have a return address or reply envelope. You can find him on the internet. Do you think you can? “
Spud went to work and found about 20 Justin Evans on Facebook. He checked the Beach Boys on the Beach Boys bulletin board and other Facebook pages, but couldn’t find him.
“Then, maybe three or four weeks ago, when I was organizing Al’s office, I found this letter and the name Justin Evans. It sounds familiar, but then I I combined the two with the two, and “Oh, he’s the guy with the CD cover,” Spud said.
The letter was written to Jardin in March 2000 when Evans was 16 years old.
“My girlfriend found the name Justin Evans on one of those websites listing people and all the addresses they used to live in,” Spud said.
He dialed the number, but Evans didn’t answer the phone.
“I ignored the call because I thought it was spam, and I received the text from the same number,” Is this a big Beach Boys fan? ” So I called that number, and it’s a spud. “
Evans has agreed to meet Spud at Happy Daz in Lima. Spud and his girlfriend traveled the area and landed in Kentucky.
Not only did Evans receive a signed CD cover, he also signed a letter Evans sent to him when he became an Eagle Scout at the age of 16 21 years ago. He also received, of course, Jardine’s latest CD signed by Jardine and a guitar pick with Jardine’s name on it.
