Dollar General closes for cleaning after backlash over ‘filthy’ conditions

Dayton, Ohio (WDTN) — Ohio’s Dollar General faces backlash after a viral social media post by its mayor.

Trotwood Mayor Mary McDonald posted live on Facebook, calling it “dirty” after noticing confusion at Dollar General on E Main Street in Trotwood.

Mayor McDonald had already visited the store a week ago and requested a change.

“I didn’t expect it to get this much attention, but it’s clear that other people feel this way,” McDonald said. “People just don’t take the time to complain. is worth much more than that, and I’m going to do everything I can as a leader to make sure they get it.”

McDonald was stunned to see the situation involving two pit bull dogs in the facility, workers not wearing uniforms, and the same workers playing vulgar music. said to have seen them scattered around the store.

Her post finally closed Dollar General on Tuesday, and the mayor said it was a good start, but more needs to happen.

“No training, no supervision,” McDonald said. “Hopefully it will bring more attention to this company so we can see something better. From what I understand, someone was cleaning up there. That’s a good start.” I think, but there’s nothing you can do about this situation unless you strengthen it with education.”

The mayor has contacted several offices, including the Trotwood Fire Marshall, Trotwood Code Enforcement, and district state representatives.

Now she wants headquarters to make changes to the store.

“The filth is the fact that things don’t come together,” McDonald said. “You can go to the same store on the other side of town, but things are neat and tidy. It can be better in the community as well.”

Dollar General reopened Wednesday. 2 NEWS spoke with the store manager, who said he could not comment on the incident.
