JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio (WTRF) –
Alarming statistics place Ohio at the forefront of the national human trafficking epidemic.
In fact…Ohio ranks #5 in the nation for human trafficking activity.
And as the numbers show, it's not just big cities that are affected.
On Monday, Trinity Health System hosted a seminar specifically aimed at helping health care workers recognize the signs of human trafficking and what to do if it is identified.
The seminar was a partnership between the anti-human trafficking organization Eyes Up Appalachia and the Forensic Nursing Network.
One of the statistics there is that about 88 percent of actively trafficked people were in the presence of a health care provider at some point during their active trafficking. Therefore, our goal is to help everyone learn how to identify it and what to do next so they can take action.
