Lorraine County Churches Gather for “Son’s Fun” Community Fun Day-Morning Journal

The local church is working with other ministries to promote one central message, unity.

Point of Grace Ministry, 6892 Lake Avenue Elyria is hosting the first Fun at the Son event.

Rev. Darrell Young, along with his wife, the Prophet Vanessa Sykes Young, is the Chief Rev. of the Point of Grace and is at the forefront of the event.

Darrell Young says he looks forward to fostering unity in the community.

“We want people to see God’s love,” he said. “This is an opportunity to see all the churches and people coming out and enjoying their son, as we focus on Christ Jesus as well as the natural sun.”

A fun day for the community is from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on July 24th. Hilltop Park, Elyria’s 1231 Galfrode..

The Point of Grace Ministries has partnered with four other local churches to show unity and influence as many people as possible.

The other church is the healing home of Elyria. Elyria’s Influence; Lorain’s Great Victory Christian Ministry; Elyria’s Second Baptist.

Young said he wanted attendees to connect with the church.

“I want people to be connected to the ministry, even if it’s not the Point of Grace ministry,” he said. “That’s why we have multiple churches involved.”

This event replaces the Vacation Bible School (VBS), a service that the church traditionally conducts to educate children about God.

Young said this was the same thing the church had always done.

“We are not trying to reinvent the wheel,” he said. “It’s an opportunity to enter the community with fun activities and introduce God to people.”

Vacation Bible Schools are usually aimed at young people and children, but this event is aimed at people of all ages.

Young said he wanted to see the whole family having fun together.

“There are also games for adults,” he said. “We make sure everyone has the opportunity to have fun and participate.”

In addition to live worship and praise dances, there are also games such as basketball, kickball, and three-legged races, according to Young.

“Each game incorporates important principles about God,” he said.

Face painting and other activities are provided for toddlers.

The event has free food and drinks.
