Dale’s Take …

first draft

5 – Cody Mouch, North Dakota (6-5, 302 lbs) 4 – John Michael Schmitz, Minnesota (6-3 ½, 301 lbs) 3 – Joe Tipman, Wisconsin (6-6, 313 lbs) 2 – Oscyrus Torrence, FL (6-5, £330) 1 – Peter Skolonski, Northwestern (6-4, £313)

Upon further consideration

5 – Cody Mouch, North Dakota (6-5, 302 lbs) 4 – John Michael Schmitz, Minnesota (6-3 ½, 301 lbs) 3 – Joe Tipman, Wisconsin (6-6, 313 lbs) 2 – Oscyrus Torrence, FL (6-5, £330) 1 – Peter Skolonski, Northwestern (6-4, £313)

analysis: No change to my top five internal offensive linemen. Both Skolonski and Mauch were tackles in college, while Tipman and Schmitz both played center but could also guard.

worth considering

Steve Avila If Skoronski and Mauch were stuck on offensive tackles, one of TCU just missed the cut here. Avila is a Maurer who has done his tackles at guard, center and right. He brought positional flexibility and went through a full season as a starter at both center and guard. … Andrew Voorhees Despite his injury, he continued to bench press and tallied 38 reps. This is the highest number recorded this year. Hard talk. … Luke Wipler A native of Ohio and a prime prospect with great athleticism. His 4.53-second shortstop his shuttle was his third best among the Combine offense his linemen. John Gaines UCLA (4.45) and John Ojukwo He beat him at Boise State (4.52). … Tyler Steen The University of Alabama could be another player with positional flexibility. He started his career at Vanderbilt University as his defensive tackle, but switched to his offensive tackle after moving to Alabama. His 32-inch arms may force him to move inward, but his father is a former Marine and his grandfather jumped on a live-fire grenade to save others in Vietnam. He received the Medal of Honor posthumously.

Mike’s take…

first draft

5 – Joe Tippman, Wisconsin (6-6, 313 lbs) 4 – John Michael Schmitz, MN (6-3 1/2, 301 lbs) 3 – Steve Avila, TCU (6-3 1/2) 2 – Oscyrus Torrence, Florida (6-5, 330 lbs) 1 – Cody Mouch, North Dakota (6-5, 302 lbs)

After further consideration

5 – John Michael Schmitz, MN (6-3.5 lbs, 301 lbs) 4 – Joe Tipman, WI (6-6 lbs, 313 lbs) 3 – Steve Avila, TCU (6 lbs 3.5 lbs, 332 2 – Cody Mouch, North Dakota (6-5, 302 lbs)1 – Osiris Torrence, Florida (6-5, 330 lbs)

analysis: Torrence isn’t as versatile as Mauch, but he’s likely to be a better guard than Mauch, and could be a center, guard, or tackle at the next level. For sex, this time it’s a nod to Schmitz.

worth considering

Ohio Luke Wipler Impressive at center in the national semi-final against Georgia. He showed solid technique, ability to give ground and then anchor in the passing game, reach second level in the running game… Tennessee in Chattanooga mcclendon curtis Started in both the moccasin guard position and left tackle.New England pulled guard Cole Strange from Chattanooga, Tennessee, in the first round of 2022 (he was 29th overall)… of East Michigan. Sidi Sow He beat NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah at the combine. “I am a fan, declared Jeremiah… LSU’s Anthony Bradford Recorded an official 5.08 40-yard dash at £332 at Indianapolis.Bradford also played a bit of offensive tackle for LSU… Jeremiah played Mississippi’s Nick Broker As a “always attached, never clean” player. Broker converted from his tackle to guard offensively in his 2022 season, and Ole Miss he started 36 games with the Utahs. Brayden Daniels After starting a total of 43 games at left guard and both tackle positions for Uté, he joined the project as a guard in the NFL. NFL Network analyst Charles Davis noted that Daniels “comes from a program that builds toughness.” …of Kentucky Tashaun Manning He had already beaten leukemia and lost a year to chemotherapy (in nine months each day he reportedly lost 40 pounds).Manning, an Auburn transfer, can play guard or offensive tackle…Michigan’s Olusegun Olwatimi He won the Lymington Trophy (Best Center) and Outland Trophy (Best Interior Lineman) and made 49 starts in college. “If you go back in history and look at guys who have started over 40 games in the big he’s ten offensive line, it’s safe to say they’re all staying at the next level,” Jeremiah noted. …Notre Dame Jarrett Paterson He had to play defense last season, but was center for three seasons until 2022. Patterson twice captained the University of Notre Dame.

Matt’s take…

first draft

5 – Steve Avila, TCU (6-3 1/2, 332 lbs) 4 – Cody Mouch, ND (6-5, 302 lbs) 3 – Osiris Torrence, FL (6-5, 330 lbs) .)2 – John Michael Schmitz, MN (6-3 1/2, 301 lbs)1 – Peter Skoronski, Northwestern (6-4, 313 lbs)

After further consideration

5 – Cody Mouch, North Dakota (6-5, 302 lbs) 4 – Joe Tipman, Wisconsin (6-6, 313 lbs) 3 – Osiris Torrence, Florida (6-5, 330 lbs) 2 – John – Michael Schmitz, Minnesota (6-3 1/2, 301 lbs)1 – Peter Skoronski, Northwestern (6-4, 313 lbs)

analysis: Avila did nothing to hurt his stock. In fact, he moved more than expected for his 332 guard at the combine. Tippman, who didn’t do well, needed to be on this list. He was the first person I didn’t study hard enough. He has great strength, but great movement skills for him with his size and position versatility.

worth considering

Few fans are aware of this, but a very important exercise test for an internal offensive lineman is the short shuttle. Be agile and need to change direction. The defensive tackles they face are more athletic, and guards and centers are often called upon to block moving linebackers on the second level of defense. An internal offensive lineman with a very high number of shuttles has a very high hit rate. Of the Combine interior linemen who ran the shuttle, only three had a time under 4.6 seconds. Tyler Steen (4.59), a tackle in Alabama that could be moved to a pro guard, and that list goes up to just four. With the exception of Steen, Minnesota was the best in class at this point. John Michael Schmitz (4.56) and Ohio Luke Wipler (4.53), but John Gaines 4.45 hours at UCLA, who blew the competition away. To put it into perspective, Gaines recorded a better time than the three wide receivers.
