Michigan School Shooting: 3 dead, multiple injured

Authorities arrested the suspect at school and recovered his pistol.

Michigan, USA — Officials say a 15-year-old sophomore fired at a high school in Michigan, killing three students and injuring eight, including a teacher.

Mike McCabe, Oakland County’s Undersheriff, said at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon that he didn’t know what motivated the attack at Oxford High School in Oxford Township, a community of about 22,000 people, about 30 miles north of Detroit. Stated.

He identified the three murdered students as a 16-year-old boy and two girls (14 and 17 years old).

At around 12:55 pm, police responded to a flood of 911 phones about active shooters at school, McCabe said. Authorities arrested the suspect at school and recovered a semi-automatic pistol and some clips.

“The agent confronted him and he had a weapon. They detained him,” McCabe said, refusing to share details about the arrest.

Authorities did not immediately disclose the names of the suspects and victims.

After the attack, the school was closed and some children were evacuated to locked classrooms while police were searching the premises. They were later taken to a nearby Meyer grocery store and picked up by their parents.

Investigators are looking for evidence of possible motivations by looking at posts on social media, McCabe said.

Governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, was one of several elected officials who expressed their condolences to the victims.

“Gun violence is a public health crisis that claims everyday life. There are tools to reduce gun violence in Michigan. Now is the time for us to get together and reassure our children at school. It’s time to help, “Whitmer said in a statement.
