Man in Boardman robbery case has trial dismissed

youngstown, ohio (WKBN) — A man accused of assaulting a female officer last year avoided a trial that began with a following. Monday jury selection He pleaded guilty to two charges on Tuesday.

Derrick Stennis, 31, entered a plea before Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge Anthony Dapolito on charges of domestic violence, a fourth-degree felony, and kidnapping, a third-degree felony.

In exchange for his plea, five other charges were dropped, including aggravated theft, a first-degree felony.

Prosecutors are seeking a two-year prison sentence. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

Stennis has remained in the Mahoning County Jail since his arrest by Boardman police on Aug. 11.

The arrest came two days after a Stadium Drive woman called police to say Stennis attacked her in her home. A woman told police that Stennis approached her from behind, forced his way inside her, “manhandled” her as she sat on a couch, and asked her if she was dating someone, according to the report. He is said to have given a statement.

The woman managed to escape, grabbed a gun and called 911, according to the report. Stennis stole the woman's wallet and fled the scene, which contained several personal items.

He also faces unrelated charges of kidnapping and felony domestic violence, which were bonded out of Youngstown Municipal Court, in connection with an Aug. 3 incident in the city. Details of the incident are unknown. A grand jury has not yet heard the case.
