Wheeling Hospital Hosts Annual Safety Town Program

WHEELING, W. VIRGINIA (WTRF) — A group of kids are learning how to stay safe in their homes and outings with their families this summer.

The annual Wheeling Hospital Safety Town begins this week and runs through next week. This program has been active in his over 30 years.

The program teaches children basic road rules, how to cross roads, what to do when approaching strangers, and how to identify poisons and safely escape a house fire.

This program is taught by the Communications and Marketing team at WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital. We also partner with Wheeling Police and Fire Department to help children understand who to trust and ask for help.

“It builds a lot of community for them. If I get stuck, I know that if I see a police officer or a firefighter, they will be there to help me.

The program runs for 10 days and ends with a graduation ceremony celebrating the child’s achievements.
