Ohio native Nasser Almadaoji convicted of trying to join ISIS

Beaver Creek, Ohio (WKBN) – A man from Beaver Creek has been sentenced to prison for trying to join the terrorist group ISIS.

Naser Almadaoji, 23, an Iraqi-born US citizen, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Wednesday and was later released under 15 years of supervision.

Armadaoji pleaded guilty He admitted to trying to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization in November 2021.

Armadaoji was arrested on October 24, 2018 by agents of the FBI Joint Counter-Terrorism Office after he purchased a ticket for the trip, checked in and obtained a boarding pass, according to court documents.

Investigators said Armadaoji intended to travel to Kazakhstan and was to be smuggled to Afghanistan to undergo military training there.
