Darke County improves accessibility, improves access to this year’s fair

Greenville, Ohio (WDTN) — The local county fair will soon be improving accessibility for people with disabilities.

According to our partners: daily advocate, more than $100,000 in grants were received to make the Darke County Fair more inclusive. The news was first announced during an interview with Darke DD (Developmentally Disabled).

Board finance director Mara Werner said the grant was part of a program to be announced in 2023. Queen Elizabeth Brewer, who uses a wheelchair, appeared in the Royal Court at that year’s Junior Fair. On the first day of last year’s fair, Brewer and her “King” Andrew Webker shared their plans for the “Fair for All.”

As part of the plan, gravel roads will be paved around some of the barns to improve access. Additionally, the former Red Cross building will be transformed into an interactive building. There will also be a permanent adult changing table, an upgrade from the mobile option offered last year.

Students from Versailles and Greenville High Schools will help with the building’s interior design and construction.
