Washington (WDVM) — An Ohio man was taken into custody Friday after allegedly bringing a hammer into the U.S. Capitol.
According to the U.S. Capitol Police, at around 3:40 p.m., staff at the Capitol Visitor Center were screening a man when an officer noticed a hammer in the man’s backpack passing through an X-ray machine. He said he noticed that.
When the officer tried to search the bag a second time, the man “became combative” and tried to grab it, police said. news release.
When a fight broke out, several police officers intervened to try to stop the man. Police said officers used a stun gun to stop the man and took him into custody.
