Revitalization project begins at Courthouse Square

Dayton, Ohio (WDTN) — Several Dayton organizations are working on a long-term redevelopment plan for Courthouse Square.

In the meantime, several short-term projects are planned to boost activity in downtown Dayton.

The first project will begin this spring at Courthouse Square in the heart of downtown.

“We're going to spend a lot of energy this summer focusing on getting people down, having a great experience and enjoying Courthouse Square,” Katie Meyer said. Downtown Dayton Partnership president.

Courthouse Square is located at 23 N. Main Street in the middle of downtown. Katie Meyer is part of a group working to transform the plaza into a modern community gathering space.

“We understand how important Courthouse Square is to the revitalization of downtown and to attracting new tenants, whether residential, office or retail,” Meyer said. Ta.

The entire plaza will be reborn. The Downtown Dayton Partnership plans to introduce shipping containers for use in pop-up events, retail, fitness, art and more.

“When people come to the plaza for different events, they have different experiences,” Meyer said. “Maybe there are eateries and artists and musicians, making it a kind of hub of activity for Courthouse Square.”

The project also includes other improvements such as new seating, lighting and games.

The total cost is expected to be $165,000, of which $75,000 will come from a public space project grant. The remainder will be provided by the Downtown Dayton Partnership and the county.

At the same time, Montgomery County will advance: Investment to redo the square fountain.

“This is part of a long-term project to redevelop the plaza and add all of the other great public spaces and amenities we have downtown,” Meyer said.

The container will open to the public in May, followed by a variety of events and activities for the community to participate in this summer.
