LIMA — Allen County Public Health Commissioner Brandon Fisher provided another update on the county’s COVID-19 situation on Wednesday.
The county’s number of cases is finally declining, and more resources are available to protect the community from viruses, Fisher said. He emphasized that some eligible residents are now able to receive COVID vaccine booster shots at a clinic in Lima Mall. He also reminded residents that the COVID-19 home test is still available in the public library.
Booster shot eligibility requirements are still limited. Currently, Third Shot is only available to people who have been vaccinated with Pfizer and are at high risk of developing severe COVID symptoms. The mall’s clinic is open Monday and Friday from 9am to 3pm.
For those who are not qualified as boosters, Fisher said the community should continue to follow appropriate health guidelines in order for Allen County to keep the trend in the right direction as the holidays approach.
“We continue to encourage people to take those precautions,” Fisher said. “Get the vaccine and wear a mask indoors in a crowded environment to limit the negative consequences that can result from exposure to viruses that can cause trauma to you and your family in the future. increase.”
Fisher also said Allen County lags the state in terms of vaccination rates, increasing the risk of more severe cases within the county.
“While the cases are diminishing, it’s important for people to know that there are still negative consequences from the final case,” he said. “There can be 20 to 30 cases in the last few weeks, but that doesn’t mean that there will be no 5-10 hospitalizations and no deaths.”
Allen County Public Health Commissioner Brandon Fisher provided the county with the latest information on COVID-19 on Wednesday, emphasizing that COVID vaccine booster shots are now available to some residents.
