Revolutionary War veteran protection and high-profile project underway in Harrison County

Harrison County, Ohio (WTRF)

The Ebenezer Zane Chapter of the Ohio Society of the Sons of the American Revolution is very busy with its latest projects.

At this week’s Harrison County Commission meeting, they unveiled a plaque that will be placed at every cemetery in the county where Revolutionary War veterans are buried.

The plaques list the names of Revolutionary War veterans buried in the cemetery and a QR code that people can scan to find information about each person.

They say this is a great way to share and preserve history with the public.

“People don’t know that in the early days of Ohio, Revolutionary War soldiers were given Ohio land as compensation for their service during the Revolutionary War. So here in Harrison County alone, 98 Revolutionary War soldiers Veterans are buried here.”

SAR plans to hold an official plaque installation ceremony with local leaders and Corps members during May when the weather warms.
