Dog spends nearly 600 days at Ohio shelter headed for new home in limousine

Euclid, Ohio (wisconsin) – After an abusive start, a dog spent nearly 600 days in an Ohio animal shelter, hoping someone would give him a forever home.

Chester the pit bull finally has a home to call his own family, and he did it in style.

After 587 days in a kennel, Chester finally emerged from the Euclid Animal Shelter on Monday morning to cheers and tears.

It was a difficult path for Chester, but now he has a new “string” in life.

“Chester was reduced to skin and bones. He couldn't even lie down. His front legs were stuck in his collar and he was a mess. He couldn't stand, so we took him out a little while later. She had to be taken care of,” said Kylie Brickman, the shelter's kennel manager.

In August 2022, Chester and three other dogs were found abandoned in a vacant home for over a week.

“He seemed really relieved to see people. To be honest, I don't know how long he could have lived,” Brickman said.

For about 10 months, shelter staff treated him for heartworm and mange and helped him gain weight.

A year and a half passed and no one adopted him until a special woman came along. On Monday, Chester rode in a limousine to his forever home, courtesy of Lake Erie Limo.

Chester, believed to be around 4 or 5 years old, was pulled up to his new home and new family. north royalton It's like a VIP.

“Oh my god, did you take a limo to get here? Did you take a limo all the way,” Chester's new owner Lauren Reitman said.

When a friend sent her an online post about Chester, Reitman fell in love at first sight.

“He has all these people around him and he's just running around trying to see who he can get love from. So I guess I won the lottery,” Reitman said. Ta.

Chester is at home, playing with toys, getting belly rubs, and of course lots of dog kisses.

Shelter officials said he needed a home without other dogs or young children, and someone who understood his past.

“I think adoption is so important, especially when animals – and I’m getting emotional right now – have had a tough start in life, they deserve to be adopted. So,” Reitman said.

Lauren said she would keep Chester's name.

“His government name will be Chester William Lightman I of Royalton,” she said, as people in the house laughed.

Reitman said he also plans to make Chester meatballs, his favorite food.

All three other dogs found in the vacant home with Chester have also been adopted.
