The City of Dublin is developing a memorial garden and cemetery on the six-acre site, according to a proposal submitted to the Dublin Planning and Zoning Commission. St. John’s has been home to Rings Road for more than 123 years, and the congregation’s original church, built in 1855, is about a mile north of Avery Road. St. John said a cemetery is needed on the site because the original church cemetery does not have room for expansion.

The site will be developed in a traditional graveyard style with multiple headstones, as well as “enhancing the existing environment” including a columbarium and cremation service, flush plots with memorial trees, and dispersed gardens. has been done. There are benches and sidewalks meandering around the site.

The proposal states that all headstones will be limited to similar colors and sizes to maintain a uniform appearance throughout the site. A small building attached to a memorial area to provide space for family gatherings completes the church’s submission to the planning commission.

“Many of our members have a rich, active and thorough history with this church, particularly with the Dublin area,” St. John’s said. “This will still be home to us, even when it’s time to leave this world.”

The City of Dublin’s Planning and Zoning Commission must review the proposal and approve the church’s six-acre rezoning before construction can begin.
