With the world premiere of the all-new Triumph Tiger 1200, Triumph’s largest adventure motorcycle has undergone many changes and radical modifications in key areas. Approximately two years after the smaller Tiger model was converted to the new Tiger 900 series, Triumph announced the 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200. It’s significantly lighter than its predecessor, yet has more power, high-end equipment and technology than ever before. In total, you can choose from five versions of the new Tiger 1200, including two long-range variants.

Using the glorious BMW R1250 GS as a benchmark, Triumph focused on the development of the new Tiger 1200 and what buyers of such adventure bikes want. Shaft drive is “absolutely important”, as is long-distance ride quality. According to the company, customers want better handling and agility, which results in lighter weight and a lighter bike than BMW.

To the eye, the new Triumph Tiger 1200 looks slimmer and lighter, but that’s true, and Triumph claims to be over 25kg lighter than its predecessor. More importantly, the new Tiger 1200 is up to 17kg lighter than the BMW, with this reduction in a new frame (saving 5.4kg), an aluminum rear subframe, an aluminum fuel tank, and a new try smaller and lighter. Link swing arm that uses a shaft drive.

The all-new 1,160cc 3-cylinder engine retains the T-plane triple crank first seen in the Tiger 900 series, producing 150hp, 9hp more than its predecessor, and 130Nm of torque. According to Triumph, these numbers make the new Tiger 1200 one of the most powerful shaft-driven adventure motorcycles.

The new Tiger 1200 has two main flavors: the Road Bias Tiger 1200 GT and the off-road oriented Tiger 1200 Rally. Of these, the GT range consists of the base GT and GT Pro models, the latter being only available in the Rally Pro format. The new Tiger 1200 will be available in two fuel tank sizes, similar to the BMW R1250 GS. By default, the bike comes with a 20 liter fuel tank, but buyers can choose the “Explorer” version for both GT bikes and rally bikes with a 30 liter fuel tank.

The main difference between the GT and Rally models is that the latter spoke wheels are 21 inches in the front and 18 inches in the rear, compared to cast aluminum wheels with the former 19 inches and the rear 18 inches. .. rear. The Tiger 1200 GT is fitted with Metzeler Touran Road tires and the Tiger 1200 Rally is fitted with Metzeler Karoo Street tires. While both bikes are equipped with Showa suspension, the rally gets semi-adaptive damping, increasing 220mm of travel at both ends compared to the 200mm of GT bikes.

For GT, GT Pro and GT Explorer, the seat heights are set to 850mm and 870mm, while for Rally Pro and Rally Explorer they are 875mm and 895mm. With the lower seat option available as an accessory, customers can also lower the seat height by an additional 20mm. Hand guards are standard on all models. The GT Pro and GT Explorer are equipped with an aluminum skid guard as standard equipment, and the Rally Pro and Rally Explorer are equipped with an aluminum sump guard as standard equipment. While GT Explorer and both Rally variants provide additional protection with an engine protection bar, Rally Explorer also comes with a fuel tank protection bar.

The out-of-range GT Explorer and Rally Explorer models feature Triumph’s first radar system. Collaboratively developed with Continental, the system uses backward-facing radar to notify the rider that another vehicle is in the blind spot and can also assist in changing lanes. Cornering traction control is standard equipment, and the 7-inch TFT instrument display is equipped with a MyTriumph connectivity system that enables calling, navigation, and GoPro control.

Launched in India in 2022, the new Triumph Tiger 1200 will be comparable to the BMW R 1250 GS, Ducati Multi Strada V4 and Honda Africa Twin.
