Toledo City is training lifeguards to open all pools

Last month, city officials announced that only some pools would open due to a lack of lifeguards.

Toledo, Ohio-The city of Toledo has taken the last step to open all the pools this summer. A lifeguard class, fully funded by the city, is currently training to staff the remaining empty pools.

“I used to look at lifeguards, and I thought they were the coolest people who could sit there and help others and keep them safe,” he said. Said 16-year-old Cairona Butler, one of the lifeguards in training. ..

Last month, city officials announced that only some pools would open due to a shortage of guards. However, anyone who wants to be trained to become a lifeguard can get training for free and earn $ 14 per hour.

Training consists of various water quality tests, written and physical CPR, and first aid tests. Lifeguard trainer Phil Koester toured three groups in the lifeguard class this year, but not all passed.

“What can happen, there are already some incidents in Toledo City, but Lifeguards are handling them well and have done a great job for them so far.” Said Mr. Coster.

If enough guards pass this training session and all pools are cleared for final inspection, Wilson pools will open this weekend and other pools may be immediately behind.
