Former Fairmont standouts start preschool basketball program

KETTERING, Ohio (WDTN) – Some Kettering preschoolers are getting hands-on lessons and learning the game of basketball.

Bry Kreider started a 10-week program at Christ United Methodist Preschool this year.

“I really enjoy working with them every Wednesday. I love seeing their faces light up,” Bri smiles.

The Kettering Fairmont graduate set records on the court in high school and went on to play and win championships in basketball in college. She also does a lot of coaching with kids and has a degree in early childhood education.

Under her guidance, more than a dozen preschoolers, ages 3, 4, and 5, are learning the basics of basketball.

“It's fun,” said 5-year-old Akil Evans.

“Some of them are quite athletic. In fact, I have a 3-year-old who is just a newborn, and she dribbles so well, I've never seen her before,” Bri said. says.

They meet every Wednesday and are known as the Bitty Ballers.

“It's hard to like when you have to dribble to get better,” Porter says.

In addition to experience, she brings a lot of patience and positive encouragement to the court.

“We focus on small details, such as using our fingertips when dribbling. We love rolling the ball on the floor,” explains Bri. “Teamwork and resilience are some of the things I’m working on more.”

“I feel like I'm giving back to Kettering because I grew up here. It's my passion. Basketball has always been my passion,” Bri says.

This program ends in May.

Bri will be hosting two different sessions over the summer.
