Those shot were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Licking County, Ohio — Police said two shooting victims appeared at a fire scene in Licking County for help after being shot dead in the city of Whitehall.

Firefighters were initially called in for a fire at an outdoor shelter on Palmer Road in Etna Township, just west of I-70, around 6:30 pm on Sunday.

The West Licking Joint Fire District said no one was injured in the fire at the shelter that housed a few bales of hay.

Just before 8 pm, two shooting victims boarded a car in a nearby parking lot and asked for help, according to the site fire chief and Licking County Sheriff Randy Thorpe.

A Whitehall police dispatcher told 10TV that the pair was injured in a drive-by shooting at Whitehall, but there was no additional information.

West Licking Fire District said one went to Mount Carmel East and a Violet Township medical worker took the other to the same hospital.

According to Whitehall police, the shots were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
