Undefeated LSU aims to continue ohio vs. rolling

The Emerald Coast Classic winner LSU wants to avoid any kind of disappointment on Wednesday night hosting Ohio in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The Tigers (7-0) beat Wakeforest 75-61 in a row at a tournament in Destin, Florida, overtime at Pennsylvania State University 68-63 over a long weekend. This was LSU’s first regular season bracket tournament championship since 2004.

“Our program has come a long way in five years,” said Will Wade. “This was one of the last steps. Over the last five years, we have taken many first steps in our program.

“It was to play harder than the other teams and to be stronger and tougher.”

That tenacity manifested itself in the defensive end, where the Tigers are one of the best teams in the country. On Tuesday, LSU ranked 5th nationwide in scoring defense (54.1 ppg allowed), 4th in field goal percentage defense (34.3), 3rd in steal per game (12.7), and forced turnover (20.4 per game). I came in 6th place.

Aggressively, the Tigers are guided by the front court. Darius Days averages 16.6 points per game. Tali Eason is chipping with 13.9 points and 8.3 rebounds, while Freshman Center Efton Reed contributes 10.4 points and 5.0 rebounds.

Its front court size and aggressive defense will be a daunting challenge for defending MAC tournament champion Ohio (5-1). Bobcat outbound 53-17 in another SEC match in Kentucky earlier this season. Wildcats pulled away late for an 18-point victory.

Ohio puts 9.5 3 pointers in the bag per game and depends on balance. Bobcat has already played three games with five double-digit scorers this year. Mark Sears (16.3 ppg), Ben Vander Plas (15.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg) and Jason Carter (14.8 ppg, 7.5 rpg) are the driving forces behind various attacks.

“They are really long and athletic,” Ohio coach Jeff Boals said of the LSU. “They put pressure on us, chase us, and try to get us to turn it over.”
