Akron, Ohio — An 18-year-old woman was shot dead near the University of Akron campus early Sunday morning.
Police in the area near Kling and Wheeler streets were warned that someone was waving a gun and found a total of three victims when they arrived at the scene, police said. In addition to the deceased teenager, a 25-year-old man was rushed to the Cleveland Clinic Akron General and is currently in crisis, with the 22-year-old man being described as stable at the Summa Health Akron City Hospital.
More than 24 hours after the shooting, Summit County coroner Dr. Gary Genser identified the young woman as Maya Noel McFetridge in Berea. Witnesses told police that there was a “massive gathering” of people south of Exchange Street when a massive battle broke out and unknown suspects began shooting.
