‘Flags for Heroes’ Ceremony Held on Mount Olivet Ahead of Independence Day
Marshall County, West Virginia (WTRF) – Independence Day is just days away, and many are celebrating the holiday all weekend long.
The Mount Olivet Lions Club wanted to celebrate Independence Day in memory of the heroes of our lives. They hosted a “Flags for Heroes” ceremony on Sunday to show how one person can make a difference in the lives of many.
Every year, Americans across the country take a break from work and other activities to celebrate the day we officially became a nation.
With friends and family, we can really understand what free means, but it didn’t come without a cost.
That’s why the Mount Olivet Lions Club hosted a ceremony where people honored veterans and other special people in their lives.
“We need to remember who has served us, not just veterans, but we have had personal heroes in our lives who have done so much for us throughout their lives. There are people, and it’s important that we recognize these people and show support.”

To start the ceremony, Moundsville Veterans Honor Guard presented a thirteen-fold American flag, I explained the meaning of each fold Then tap performance.
Marshall County Judge Zachary Allman, the speaker at the ceremony, was then introduced.
He began his speech by asking what a hero is.
“For me, the key ingredient to being a hero is some kind of sacrifice. Selfless service.”

Allman went on to say that everyone in our community and family can be a hero.
“I think the beauty of this ceremony is that it’s different than just a veteran’s service. People can identify someone who has made an impact in their lives. I’m a big proponent of the ripple effect that if you do something good, and the lives of those who receive it will change forever.”

After Allmans’ speech, a musical salute honored veterans and special heroes as their names were read.
Lion Brother David Hall delivered a congratulatory speech, and the ceremony closed with the song “God Bless America.”
