Woman walking in Ohio cheering on Big Brothers Big Sisters

Dayton, Ohio (WDTN) — A man from Miami Valley walks from Cincinnati to Cleveland to raise mental health awareness and support the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Shelby and Dark counties.

Tarissa Leal has walked over 160 miles on her 445-mile journey so far.

Reel said her journey so far has been wonderful and that Big Brothers Big Sisters gave her so much during her Little years in the program. said he chose to return the favor.

“I really take mental health seriously,” Leal said. “I believe the biggest thing we have to do is show people that they are not alone. Now that I’m doing it, I know how I’m not alone and I just need help.”

She will be in Sydney on Thursday to be celebrated by the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Shelby and Dark counties and to receive all the funds she raised.

Katie Price, executive director of Shelby and Dark County Big Brothers Big Sisters, said Reel’s journey has been truly inspirational for everyone in the community, especially all the Littles participating in the program. said.

“I hope they realize that no matter what they’re going through, there’s more they can do with their lives,” Price said. “She does what she does is taking one step at a time to improve whatever her situation is.”

Reel’s message to all the Littles who may be watching her is simple.

“Try it,” she said. “If you want to do something, just do it. This is her one shot. This shot is her one shot. If you don’t take the chance, you never know what will happen.”
