Crime solved with the help of high-tech cameras at Eastwood Mall

Niles, Ohio (WKBN) – High-tech cameras keep an eye on Eastwood Mall in Niles.

The mall partnered with the City of Niles and the Niles Police Department to deploy Flock safety cameras in strategic locations around the facility.

Cameras can capture detailed images of vehicles and license plates to help police investigate crimes.

The rollout of the system began in August, and to date, 15 cases have been resolved by the system, according to Joe Bell, director of corporate communications at Cafaro Company.

According to Bell, the recently solved crime was on Nov. 7 when Christopher Doll, 36, allegedly stole more than $600 worth of merchandise from JCPenney.

“Within minutes, Flock’s camera captured an image of Dole escaping on a bicycle,” Bell said.

On September 23, Bell said The system identified that a stolen minivan had entered the mall’s premises and called the police. Police arrested the driver, 48-year-old Sheldon Robinson, and recovered the van.

A theft charge was filed against Wednesday’s doll.

Robinson was charged with receiving stolen goods and running away with it. The case was held by a Trumbull County grand jury. Arraignment is scheduled for November 14th.
