Columbus police officer injured after being struck by equipment
The officer was taken to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center for treatment. The extent of their injuries is not known at this time.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — An officer with the Columbus Division of Police was injured after they were hit by some type of construction equipment on the city’s west side on Wednesday.
The incident happened at Trabue Road and Quarry Trails Drive around just before 8:45 a.m. Columbus Police Sgt. Joe Albert said a construction worker called 911, claiming that an officer was working on special duty for a project with AEP and was struck by some type of construction equipment.
Columbus police responded to the call within a minute and offered medical aid until medics arrived.
The officer was taken to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in critical condition. His condition has since improved, but Sgt. Joe Albert said the officer suffered significant injuries to his lower body.
Sgt. Albert did not provide the name of the officer who was injured but did say that they were a 26-year veteran of the police department.
Investigators with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration were called to assist with the investigation.
Trabue Road from Hague Avenue to Riverside Drive is closed due to the incident. It is unclear how long the road will be shut down, but Sgt. Albert said it will be closed for a significant amount of time.
