Facebook-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp According to a WABetaInfo report, we found that we are testing a new feature that allows users to manage chat backups and exclude certain content such as documents and photos from cloud backups. This change is initially said to be limited to Android users and may work with backups stored in Google Drive. In that report, WABetaInfo states that WhatsApp has added a new dedicated “Manage Backup Sizes” section that allows users to manage backup sizes before uploading to the cloud.
The report shows that WhatsApp for Android Beta 18.104.22.168 seems to have some references to updates. According to screenshots shared by WaBetaInfo, a new section allows users to manage their backup size by excluding photos, sounds, or documents from their backups. These changes have not been introduced in beta testing either.
Currently, WhatsApp apps do not have backup size related features. Users only have the option to exclude videos from cloud backups.
WhatsApp has not yet provided official details about allowing users to manage backup sizes. According to the report, this could also be due to changes to Google Drive storage for WhatsApp backups. Google Drive currently offers unlimited storage for WhatsApp backups, but it doesn’t always last forever.
